Tinctures, Glycerites, Elixers & Syrups

In today’s busy world, tinctures and glycerites have become a preferred form of herbal medicine; the taste, which can be quite bitter at times, can be disguised or diluted in water, juice or tea. Tinctures provide quick assimilation and ease of administering dosage (15-30 drops, two or three times a day is typical). When glycerin (extracted from vegetables and really sweet), instead of alcohol, is used as the base in tinctures, the resulting product is called a glycerite. Glycerites are often more palatable for children.
